Product Description
A moderately warm growing season, although somewhat cooler than 2006 produced wines with great structure and depth. Careful pruning of the vines and a substantial amount of effort in shoot and cluster thinning as needed allowed us to compensate for any cold weather damage from October of 2006 and crop the vines at typical levels. Harvest dates were early for Merlot, which did have a smaller crop due to the cold weather in October of 2006. Cabernet harvest dates were more about normal. Similar to 2006, very cold weather at the end of October, down to 22 degrees, something the plants again tolerated, but were not thrilled about. Bud damage for 2008 crop is less than cold in 2006. Another great vintage on Red Mountain. The name Terra Blanca, Latin for white earth, is named for the high calcium carbonate content that whitens soils of our Red Mountain vineyard and helps produce the incredible depth and structure in the grapes. The first grapes were harvested from our estate vineyard in 1997
